About me

Cheng-Yang Peng (b. 1999, Hsinchu,

Taiwan) is a freelance choreographer

and performer whose works blend dramatic

structure, precise, bold movement

language, and humor. Currently based in

Essen, Germany. 

Peng began his physical training in 2016,

training under Master Wang

Yong-Shun in martial arts and Tai Chi. In

2018, he enrolled in the Dance Department

at Folkwang University of the Arts in

Germany, undergoing

systematic training and graduating in 2022.

During his studies, he was invited to

perform as a guest dancer with the Aalto

Ballet Essen.

From 2022 to 2023, he danced

professionally with Ballet Hagen. In 2024,

He choreographed and performed Die

Leiden des jungen Werther at

Theater Hagen and took part in the opening

ceremony of the Paris

Paralympics as a professional dancer.

In 2025, Peng transitioned fully into a

Freelance choreographer. His duet

Skepticist was presented at

Somebody@maschinenhaus Festival in

Essen and his solo, Two Relationships, won

a choreography award at the

29th International Solo Dance Theater

Festival in Stuttgart.

Peng has shaped by engagement with

works by renowned artists such as

Alexander Ekman, Pina Bausch, Marco

Goecke, amassing a wealth of

professional experience. Blending Eastern

and Western training

influences his work is committed to

continuous exploration—creating

dance that resonates with both the

individual and the world.
